I have essentially fallen in love with this girl, whoever she is,
since I heard this. The cello is by far the best instrument ever
created. This track is pretty minimalist relying solely on
Wade’s great vocals, cello and a bit of percussion.
Spindle MagazineYahoo,
something fresh and skillful! Red lipped and confident, her breathy
voice is given the edge with minor keys and blues scales and a
Florence-Welch-y howl. She made full use of a cello and foot-pedalled
her own percussion - watch her live; she is a spectacle taking into
stride the chasmic hall and making it sing for her’ -

"When evaluating any EP from a new artist, the verdict either falls
on the side of ‘I’ve had enough,’ or ‘Please put more on my plate.’ And
Blood and Air easily fits into the ‘Please put more on my plate’
category. We can’t wait to hear what this psycho cellist has for us
next." -

"Brushes, sticks, boxes – it’s all sounds good to us. But most of
all it sounds like nothing we’ve heard before. And that’s why Abi Wade
is so exciting. She’s really made that cello her own.' -
The Source
Abi Wade was something of a revelation. She sings and plays the cello
(and the piano for one song). But how she plays the cello! With a
mixture of pizzicato and bowing, with two foot pedals adding percussion
and a selection of small drumsticks and the bow itself, she additional
taps and thumps and judders the stick on and around the body and strings
of the cello to create a fascinating and complex web of sound to
accompany her rich voice and strong and varied songs. Definitely someone I’d like to see again.
